New York Harbor keeps most of them. Castle Clinton (1811) is 2 km from the center of New York City, Fort Jay (1794) and Castle Williams (1807) are 3 km away, and Staten Island has Fort Tompkins plus nearly a dozen named batteries, Battery Hudson among them. Upstate, Fort Ontario is a kilometer from Oswego, Fort Stanwix is in the middle of Rome, and Fort Brewerton is 7 km from Clay.
RLQuest knows 48 named forts in New York, 16 of them with a Wikipedia article; the state's 62 lighthouses and 243 waterfalls have pages of their own. Forts make good city quests because so many sit right on the water, and the app treats them like any other place: get there on foot, let the recorded route prove it, and the waterfront tiles turn into yours.
Every dot is a place. The numbers mark the highlights listed below.

A selection, best known first, with the nearest larger town next to each.
RLQuest knows these places too. Which means:
Some of your daily quests lead to a real place near you. The app uses your location to check you were really there.
If you're the first person in RLQuest to complete a quest at a place, it's your first find. The Place Book shows you which kinds of place you're still missing.
Every walk uncovers tiles, each about 350 m across. Over time you can see which corners you know well, and where you've never set foot.
