Cologne has city gates to spare, ten within the radius: the Hahnentorburg (0.8 km), the Ulrepforte, the Severinstorburg and the Eigelsteintorburg are all within 2 km of the center, and the Römerturm is 0.9 km away. RLQuest knows 48 castles within 25 km, led by Schloss Augustusburg and the Jagdschloss Falkenlust in Brühl, both around 12 km out, with Schloss Bensberg at 15.3 km and Burg Kendenich at 8.8 km.
The forts are the local specialty: 14 of them, Fort X at 2.8 km and Fort IX at 5.6 km among them, in a ring around the old city, plus the Kölner Festungsmuseum at 4.5 km. The four Belvedere lookouts, all near 7 km, are easy wins, and exactly the kind of place RLQuest likes to send you.
